Of course I was inspired by the beauty of the cotton and the amazing sky. I knew I wanted to try to capture it as I drove past. Not having a great camera I had to paint from the image of the scene saved in my mind. This is a scene from southern, middle Tennessee.
But as I began working on this painting, I also began thinking of the growing tensions we have been faced with in 2015. So happy that we have come so far from slaves in the cotton field. But it seems there is way too much bitterness instead of happiness.
This scene I was inspired to try my hand at reproducing became not only an attempt to show off God's creation, but also an attempt at remembering how far we have come in mind and spirit and the love of one another. Recognizing that we are all human, we have hearts, minds and souls. We should unite together, instead of trying to tear each other apart because of past mistakes.
If you find yourself dwelling on someone's past at least give them credit for how far they have come from whatever negativity might have been there at one time. And above all appreciate the beauty in God's creation.
The original version of this painting is on stretched canvas rendered in acrylic.
