Pondering on the subject my first thoughts went to God. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 This is the truth about what love is.
As a teenager I thought many times I had fallen in love, because of that butterfly in the tummy thing. This is as far from the truth about love as you can get. But for many years, it's what I thought. So sad! I'm afraid that many people think this, I know I wasn't alone. This changed when I had children, I began to learn what love was about.
Love, is a noun and a verb. Several definitions state that love is an emotion or even a strong attraction. Oh my, I'm ashamed that such educated people could even begin to think this to be true. I think it speaks of the state of minds, uneducated in morals and values.
To me, love is a choice. And when you make a choice you have decided to honor that choice. In honoring the choice you have made to love some one, you in turn honor them. This choice should be an educated decision based on the true meaning of what love is. Butterflies in the tummy go away, love does not!
Love is an action. You will do things for and treat that one you have decided to love with respect. God loves us, He gave His only Son to save us from death, He gave us everlasting life. That is love, He showed us He loves us, He proved it with blood. Do you really love someone?
If you do, your spirit will sing a melody of musical deeds for that person that will stir their soul to sing in harmony with yours.
When we become Christians, realizing what God has done for us and how He loves us, it should stir our souls to sing in harmony with His Spirit, and we will show our love by honoring Him. Then and only then, will we have knowledge of what the true meaning of love is and be capable of choosing love.
That is what I think about love and so I wrote this verse and it seemed to fit with a previous painting I had done, for someone I love.
Love is.....the spirit set to music stirring the soul to sing.
